Autoimmune Diseases: The Enemy Within
Auditorium. Civic Center Golferichs. Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 491, 08015 Barcelona.
Autoimmune diseases are a group of disorders of unknown cause in which the immune system becomes dysregulated and attacks the body's own organs. More than 110 autoimmune diseases are currently known, and some epidemiological studies estimate that over 10% of the population is affected by an autoimmune disease. In approximately one-third of these conditions, the attack is systemic and affects the entire body, giving rise to what are known as systemic autoimmune diseases. These conditions are characterized by the simultaneous or successive involvement of most organs and systems and by the presence of various autoantibodies as biological markers.
Presented by Ricard Cervera, Head of the Autoimmune Diseases Department at Hospital Clínic, Leader of the IDIBAPS Research Group on Systemic Autoimmune Diseases, and Director of the UB-GSK Chair in Autoimmune Diseases at the University of Barcelona.
Talk in Catalan. Free admission. Limited capacity, prior registration required.
