Vaccines, heroines or criminals?

Auditorium. Civic Center Golferichs. Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 491, 08015 Barcelona.

The aim of this talk is to provide an overview of the history of vaccines. It will cover their origins, based on sometimes brilliant clinical observations, up to the present day, when vaccine design is extremely sophisticated and targeted. Existing controversies surrounding vaccines, as well as their benefits and risks, will also be addressed. Finally, the talk will discuss, through examples, the classic and ongoing struggle between scientific movements that support vaccines and those that oppose them.

José Alcamí, physician and PhD in microbiology, is a researcher in the AIDS and HIV infection group at IDIBAPS.

Talk in Catalan. Free admission. Limited capacity, prior reservation required.
