Since the launch of the municipal "District 11" initiative, Campus Clínic Solidari (CCS)—which unites the efforts of Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, IDIBAPS, ISGlobal, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the UB, MonClinic, and CAPSBE—has actively taken part in healthcare-related meetings and activities.
Despite severe restrictions on humanitarian access in Palestine, online collaboration to date has yielded significant results. Specifically, technical support has been provided to Palestinian nursing professionals caring for children with disabilities, such as cerebral palsy and other neuropsychological conditions. This project has involved a dedicated group of professionals from the Child Development and Early Intervention Centre (CDIAP), the Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Team (EIPI) of Ciutat Vella and Nou Barris, a psychology group associated with the UAB, and the commitment of colleagues from the CCS. Thanks to this joint effort, nurses in the West Bank have made major strides in caring for patients in the refugee camps.
At the request of Barcelona City Council, and building on the progress achieved, CCS organized a tour of various clinical and training facilities. The UNRWA delegation was composed of Dr. Rabie Naqa (Deputy Chief, Field Health Programme), Dr. Luai Khatib (Field Family Health Officer), Mr. Yasser Awad (Disability Focal Point, Health Programme), Ms. Lamia Hamdan (Community Nurse), and Ms. Virginie Dattler (Disability Inclusion Protection Officer).
Throughout the day, UNRWA representatives gained first-hand insight into the facilities and working models across several areas of our environment:
- Hospital Area: Welcomed by Dr. Closa, the delegation visited the rehabilitation department at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, showcasing the institution's work as a leading European reference center.
- Primary Care: The key aspects of the healthcare model were presented through a tour of the facilities at Consorci Atenció Primària de Salut Barcelona Esquerra (CAPSBE).
- Academic Area: A guided tour was conducted at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the University of Barcelona (UB) as a premier institution for medical education.
The delegation was accompanied throughout the visit by Meritxell Cascan, Julià González, Ethel Sequeira, and Glòria Cardona on behalf of CCS.
The meeting took place in a warm, enriching atmosphere that allowed us to present our daily practice, share valuable expertise, and, above all, listen directly to the experiences of the UNRWA professionals.
