The event began with a welcoming address by Michela Bertero, IDIBAPS’ acting director. Alfredo Vellido and Simone Balocco then gave a joint talk on the use of artificial intelligence in biomedicine, data analysis and statistical tools, in keeping with the central theme of the day, focused on artificial intelligence and scientific communication.
Next, Marta Kulis of IDIBAPS’ Sustainability Committee spoke about good practices in the laboratory and the environmental impact associated with scientific activity.
After a break, three consecutive workshops were held, open to all participants:
-
Scientific writing, led by Ian Robinson, was focused on how to structure and communicate research results effectively.
-
How to make a good poster, led by Eduscopi, provided practical tips for designing clear and attractive visual presentations.
-
Conflict management, led by Joaquín Capablo, explored tools to deal with and resolve tensions in research teams.
The poster session was held in the afternoon. Eighteen posters were presented, followed by the three-minute thesis competition, where 10 of the PhD students presented their projects clearly and concisely in a limited time.
The winners were decided by a jury composed of IDIBAPS researchers Cristina Fillat, Eduard Guasch and Ruben Santiago. The winners of this edition were:

-
Second prize: Marta Soria Castellano. Principal investigator (PI): Sònia Guedan. Title: ‘Development of ARI-007: CD7 negative anti-CD7 CAR-T cells for the treatment of T-cell malignancies’.
-

-
Third prize: Laura Valls Roca. Principal investigator (PI): Glòria Garrabou. Title: ‘Mitochondrial-targeted candidates for potential treatment of Kearns-Sayre Syndrome’.
The event ended with a round table discussion with Ignasi Labastida, Núria Camp, Matías Rey Carrizo and Carla Serra, who reflected on the role of communication and divulgation in science. This was followed by an awards ceremony and finally a social activity to encourage interaction between participants in a relaxed atmosphere.
PhD Day is becoming a key event for the young research community at IDIBAPS. Since its first edition in 2019, this event has brought people together, providing recognition and training for IDIBAPS’ PhD students, helping to strengthen their role in the institution and in the biomedical research system as a whole.
