On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, IDIBAPS welcomed a group of people with inflammatory bowel disease, a term that encompasses various chronic inflammatory disorders of the digestive system, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
The visitors, patients from the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Unit at Hospital Clínic, had the opportunity to learn first-hand about the research led by Azucena Salas and her team. Salas is the head of the IDIBAPS Inflammatory bowel disease group and of the Biomedical Research Networking Center in Hepatic and Digestive Diseases (CIBER-EHD).
During the visit, Salas presented the main lines of research her team is working on to understand the mechanisms involved in ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. In addition, the patients visited the laboratories, where they were able to see the cellular models used in the research, as well as the IDIBAPS biobank facilities, which coordinate the collection, processing, storage, and distribution of human biological samples.
