Sabela Lens is a specialist in gastroenterology and hepatology at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, where she joined the Viral Hepatitis Unit. She obtained her PhD from the University of Barcelona in 2016, focusing her research on the natural history of HCV and the impact of its cure. She has developed her own clinical-translational research program on HBV and hepatitis Delta, including a postdoctoral stay at University College London. She is currently an associate professor at the University of Barcelona, principal investigator of competitive projects, and a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Hepatology and the scientific committee of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL). She has received international awards such as the EASL Emerging Leader Award and UEG Rising Star.

Sabela Lens takes over from Xavier Forns as head of the IDIBAPS research group "Viral, Genetic and Immune-Mediated Liver Diseases"
The IDIBAPS Management Committee has approved the leadership transition of the research group "Viral, genetic and immune-mediated liver diseases". Sabela Lens is the new group leader, replacing Xavier Forns, who has chosen to step down from the role. Forns remains affiliated with the group.
