The Novella project, from the Hospital Clínic-IDIBAPS, has entered the Healthcare category of the European EIT Jumpstarter 2025 programme. This is a pre-acceleration programme promoted by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). EIT is an independent body created by the European Commission in 2008 whose mission is to strengthen Europe's innovative capacity by supporting disruptive projects, entrepreneurial training and the connection between research, education and business. According to the promoters, "the objective is to help inventors, researchers and entrepreneurs from Southern, Central and Eastern Europe to transform innovative ideas into real businesses".
Novella is led by Fabio Ausania, from the General and Digestive Surgery Service of the Hospital Clínic Barcelona and member of the IDIBAPS 'Gene Therapy and Cancer' research group with the collaboration of Cristina Fillat, head of the said research group, Carolina González, also from the General and Digestive Surgery Service of the Hospital Clínic Barcelona, and the IDIBAPS Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office (KTT).
This year's edition has been particularly competitive, with more than 900 nominations submitted from all over Europe in different categories. The selected teams receive specialised training, mentoring, and access to a European network of experts and investors, with the aim of transforming innovative ideas into market-ready solutions.
The Novella project had already won one of the Campus Clínic Innova 2024 awards last year. In addition, it had previously obtained funding from the PERIS 2023 grants, within the Strategic Plan for Research and Innovation in Health, and the Innovators 2024, from the AGAUR Knowledge Industry.
