  • Urology

The Urology Department is part of the Clinical Institute of Nephrology and Urology (ICNU) of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. It was founded in 1954 and since then its mission has been to provide urological coverage in its area of influence and to be a reference center for the study and treatment of complex urological diseases, as well as for kidney transplantation, in Catalonia, Spain and Europe. The Department has the necessary characteristics to be considered a first-class center for the training of specialists in Urology.

The Department has a 24-bed hospital ward in the Villarroel Headquarters, and 8 beds in the Plato Headquarters. These are dedicated to patients with diseases of the genitourinary system and those undergoing kidney transplants; this latter is an area in which the Hospital has been a pioneer at a national level. For many years it has been the center in Spain with the highest number of transplants performed, and today it is a reference center both nationally and internationally.

The Department  also has a Urological Diagnostic Unit (UDU), where diagnostic scans and simple surgical procedures are performed.
