The General and Digestive Surgery Department is part of the Institute of Digestive and Metabolic Diseases and specializes in the surgical treatment of various pathologies of the digestive system, abdominal wall, endocrine system, and soft tissues. Within the digestive system, our Department focuses on surgery for diseases of the oesophagus, stomach, and duodenum, small intestine, and colon, rectum, and anus. Likewise, a large part of our activity consists of obesity surgery and the treatment of diseases of the liver, pancreas, and bile ducts, including intestinal transplants. The common approach to all of these is the application of minimally invasive surgical techniques, combined with the use of the latest technologies and the most innovative treatments. In addition, we encourage collaboration between multidisciplinary teams, which provides our patients with individualized, comprehensive, and high-quality care.
The General and Digestive Surgery Department operates as a community hospital for its catchment area, Barcelona Esquerra, and also acts as a tertiary and highly complex hospital with a referral area that extends to other parts of Catalonia.
The Department participates in multidisciplinary teams made up of doctors from different specialties and primary care, nursing staff, nutritionists, and technicians, all committed to providing patient-centred care. We accompany our patients from diagnosis to postoperative follow-up, ensuring their well-being at every stage of the process.
