A genome-wide association study identifies a genetic variant associated with renal impairment in decompensated cirrhosis

A large international study, led by the Clínic-IDIBAPS, the European Foundation for the Study of Chronic Liver Disease (EF CLIF), the Hôpital Universitaire de Bruxelles and the Université Libre de Bruxelles, has identified a genetic variant associated with the risk of kidney injury in patients with decompensated cirrhosis and points to an immune pathway that could explain the connection between liver and kidney failure. The study was published in The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology.
