The selected projects is Social Determinants of Urban Dementia (DESODEM-BCN), led by Albert Lladó, from the Alzheimer's Disease and Other Cognitive Disorders group at IDIBAPS. The project aims to analyze how various social and environmental factors, such as socioeconomic status, social infrastructure, and pollution, can influence the symptoms and biology of dementia in the Barcelona urban context.
The research will combine biomedical, social, and urban approaches, with a particular focus on the study of the pTau217 biomarker. Through this interdisciplinary perspective, the team aims to identify inequalities in the diagnosis and progression of dementia and provide data that will contribute to more equitable public health policies.
The project will be carried out in collaboration with the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, the Barcelona Urban Research Institute (IDRA), and the Barcelona Public Health Agency (ASPB). The knowledge generated can be transferred to clinical practice and help design healthier urban environments for people at risk of cognitive decline.
