This incorporation strengthens joint work and consolidates the strategic collaboration between both institutions.
The general director of Clínic, Dr. Josep Maria Campistol, emphasizes that the incorporation of FERO into the 4CB Governing Council “strengthens an already existing collaboration and allows us to advance in a shared project that combines care, research, and teaching to better meet the needs of cancer patients”.
The President of the FERO Foundation, Dr. Silvia Garriga, highlights that being part of the 4CB Governing Council “is an opportunity to actively contribute to promoting a model where collaboration between institutions, philanthropy, and commitment to scientific excellence translate into tangible impact for people with cancer and for the healthcare system as a whole”.
A Strategic Step for 4CB Development
The incorporation of FERO into the 4CB Governing Council strengthens the collaboration that already exists between both institutions and will contribute to promoting new research projects, facilitating resource fundraising, and continuing the deployment of the centre's organizational model. The director of 4CB, Dr. Aleix Prat, values this step as a necessary reinforcement at a key moment in the centre's development: “The incorporation of the FERO Foundation into the 4CB Governing Council brings strategic vision, long-term commitment, and driving capacity. It helps us consolidate a project that wants to grow in an orderly manner, with ambition and a clear focus on real impact for people with cancer and the system”.
A Model Integrating Care, Research, and Teaching
The 4CB is a centre promoted jointly by Hospital Clínic, the University of Barcelona, and IDIBAPS. The centre integrates care, research, and teaching to provide personalized and innovative care to people with cancer, placing the patient and their family at the centre of all decisions. Its care activity is organized around multidisciplinary units and tumour committees, which allows each case to be addressed from all perspectives and to quickly incorporate the latest scientific and technological advances. The 4CB drives translational research that connects the development of scientific advances with direct clinical application. With 27 research groups and a broad portfolio of clinical trials, the centre leads innovative projects in precision medicine, immunotherapy, and advanced diagnostics.
A Collaboration Looking to the Future
The incorporation of FERO into the centre's governance consolidates a shared path aimed at strengthening oncology research, attracting talent, developing strategic projects, and continuing to advance towards an integral cancer management model. Hospital Clínic and FERO thus reaffirm their joint commitment to providing patients with coordinated care based on the most up-to-date scientific knowledge.
