May 31 marks World No Tobacco Day, an initiative promoted by the World Health Organization to raise awareness about the public health problem posed by tobacco use. As every year, Hospital Clínic joins this campaign to renew its commitment to tackling tobacco use, both internally and externally.
Throughout the week, several internal activities have taken place, with a highlight on an information session about the Smoking Cessation Program. This program, which has been in place for over 10 years, aims to help hospital staff quit smoking, encouraging healthcare professionals to set a positive example for healthy habits and to keep the hospital premises smoke-free.
Externally, Hospital Clínic is also committed to promoting healthy habits among the general population. In this regard, through Portal Clínic, hospital professionals who are experts in tobacco dependence have updated and expanded the resources on quitting smoking. These materials now include more information about tobacco statistics, the contents of tobacco smoke, the consequences of smoking, and the benefits of quitting.
A recent episode of the podcast “Consulta Abierta” has also been published, focusing on tobacco dependence. In this episode, journalist Lourdes Lancho visits Hospital Clínic patients with severe tobacco addiction to explain how patient groups are organized to help people quit smoking with the support of hospital professionals.
