CoARA is an international coalition of organisations committed to reforming research assessment methods and processes, promoting the use of qualitative judgments supported by the responsible use of quantitative indicators. Over 700 international institutions are part of this coalition. IDIBAPS joined CoARA in late 2022, pledging to recognise the diversity of research contributions and to avoid relying exclusively on metrics and institutional rankings. An internal working group was created to carry out this reform. The working group is reviewing current assessment practices and has proposed the current Action Plan.
The IDIBAPS Action Plan, which covers the period 2024-2028, aims to guide the implementation of the research assessment reform. The main lines of action include:
-
Review of current assessment practices. The working group is going over assessment methodologies and analysing them to identify areas for improvement.
-
Design and piloting of reforms. Pilot projects are being developed and implemented for some assessments, such as the assessment of research groups, to test new approaches aligned with CoARA’s principles.
-
Awareness-raising and dissemination activities. Activities are being carried out to raise awareness among the research community about the importance of fairer and more inclusive research assessments.
-
Participation and exchange with other institutions. IDIBAPS actively participates in the SAGA working group, which is charged with the administrative and governance reforms necessary to align the assessment of biomedical research with the principles of CoARA. It is also part of the national chapter.
With this Action Plan, IDIBAPS strengthens its commitment to the continuous improvement of its assessment practices, ensuring recognition of the diversity of contributions to biomedical research.
