The main goal of this visit is to assess compliance with international standards to obtain accreditation as a comprehensive cancer centre, a recognition that appraises the integration of care, research, and education in oncology throughout the entire process — prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.
What does the OECI audit involve?
The OECI is a European network that brings together centres of excellence in cancer and promotes shared quality standards. The audit evaluates nearly 700 criteria, including governance, prevention, early diagnosis, care pathways, multidisciplinary treatments, translational research, teaching, and continuous training. Accreditation signifies recognition of the centre’s overall quality, forward-looking vision, and commitment to continuous improvement.
Key data of the Clínic Barcelona Comprehensive Cancer Centre
The 4CB manages over 5,900 new cancer cases annually, performs approximately 100,000 consultations per year, has 15 multidisciplinary committees and 7 functional units, supports over 600 active clinical studies annually, and produces more than 500 scientific publications each year. It also includes three transversal programs — Molecular Tumor Board, Hereditary Cancer and Genetic Predisposition, and Immunotherapy — which contribute to innovation, care cohesion, and the development of personalized treatments, always placing the person with cancer at the centre of decision-making.
A milestone to advance quality and European leadership
This audit reinforces Campus Clínic’s commitment to continuous improvement and European leadership in oncology.
Heartfelt thanks to all the people involved — healthcare professionals, researchers, teaching staff, and support teams — for their effort, rigor, and dedication in preparing and conducting this audit.
