The Board of Trustees of IDIBAPS has approved the composition of the institution's new Scientific Advisory Board (SAB). This body is composed of internationally renowned experts in biomedical research and innovation who advise the center on strategic, scientific, and management matters. The ESC ensures research excellence and strengthens the Institute's global standing by providing an independent and expert perspective on its projects and priorities.
Specifically, the SAB is responsible for evaluating the quality of scientific activity, guiding future institutional directions, and acting as advisors and consultants to help implement the entity's scientific strategy. Its functions include: advising on institutional priorities and research organization; reviewing the impact and quality of scientific programs; contributing to talent development and attraction; promoting innovation and knowledge transfer; and strengthening IDIBAPS' international visibility and strategic alliances.
The new SAB is composed of:
- José López-Barneo, President of the SAB: Physiologist and international expert in oxygen detection mechanisms and neurodegeneration. Founder and former director of the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville.
- Trine Bartholdy: Chief Business Officer at the BioInnovation Institute, expert in innovation, strategic development, and knowledge transfer.
- Christine Durinx: Co-director of VIB (Belgium), a leading figure in bioinformatics, biomedical data, and the integration of artificial intelligence in the life sciences.
- Ramon Gomis: Endocrinologist and Professor Emeritus at the University of Barcelona, former director of IDIBAPS, and expert in diabetes, obesity, and metabolism.
- Andreas Meyer-Lindenberg: Director of the Central Institute of Mental Health (Mannheim) and a leader in neuroimaging and risk mechanisms in psychiatric disorders.
- Teresa Palomero: Professor at Columbia University and expert in T-cell leukemias and lymphomas, a pioneer in the use of genomic tools for hematological tumors.
- Antoni Ribas: Professor at UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) and a key figure in cancer immunotherapy and the development of advanced cell therapies.
- Hester den Ruijter: Professor at UMC Utrecht, specializing in cardiovascular diseases in women and biomarkers for early diagnosis.
- Elisenda de la Torre: President of the Catalan Rheumatology League, a leading patient advocate, and a specialist in patient participation and health policy.
- Antonio Vidal-Puig: Professor at the University of Cambridge and a leader in research on obesity, metabolism, and lipotoxicity.
- Fiona Wood: A pioneer in plastic surgery and burn treatment, co-creator of spray-on skin therapy, and one of the most internationally renowned surgeons.
- Jessica Zucman-Rossi: A world-renowned expert in liver cancer genomics and director of the Cordeliers Research Center (Paris).
With this committee, IDIBAPS reinforces its ambition to promote high-impact biomedical research, open to the world and focused on improving people's health.
