The interior of the block was created in 2007, with the construction of the CEK building of the IDIBAPS, which guaranteed public access to the gardens. This space is maintained by the Barcelona City Council, and now the second phase is being considered, which consists of the extension of the garden.
The signed agreement foresees that IDIBAPS will assume the execution and demolition of the entire building, including the municipal part, and that the City Council will be responsible for the project and the necessary works for the urbanization of the space, which will allow the current lounge area to be completed and expanded, with new trees, street furniture, and new lighting.
The councilor of the Eixample, Jordi Valls, considers that "the arrangement and increase of green and lounge spaces, in this case with the improvement and expansion of an existing block interior near the Hospital Clínic, is good news for a dense and consolidated urban fabric like that of the Eixample".
Susana Puig has assured: "We are happy to contribute to arranging these Beatriu de Pinós gardens that we also feel partly as ours, since they are adjacent to our campus and are part of our daily lives".
The total duration of the agreement is 36 months, although the parties assume the commitment to begin the actions immediately after the signing of the agreement. The will, therefore, be to execute the demolition and urbanization during the next year and complete the action before the end of the mandate.
