Cervical disc herniation is currently one of the most common neurosurgical diseases, along with lumbar disc herniation. It usually appears in people between 30 and 50 years-old, and can be due to any type of trauma or injury of the neck.

Professionals and patients explain how you live with the disease
Not all hernias have to be operated on. One thing is a hernia that causes compression, and another thing is when the disc moves, which is a protrusion. These protrusions do not require surgical intervention. Surgery should always be the last resort for this type of pathology.
A disc herniation is produced in the cervical spine when an intervertebral disc degenerates and deteriorates and the internal nucleus leaks towards a weakened part situated in the area outside the disc.
The intervertebral discs are the tissues located between the bones of the vertebral column. These discs consist of a soft centre, similar to a gel, and a more solid outside covering. The intervertebral discs create a joint between each one of the bones in the vertebral column that helps them move. When the outside covering that surrounds the disc tears, the soft centre can pass through the opening, leading to a disc herniation.
