Treatment of Low Birth Weight

Reading time: 1 min

As a general rule, an incubator is not necessary and feeding should be started early with mother's milk.

Etiopathogenic treatment is indicated during childbirth to prevent loss of foetal wellbeing through proper obstetric care.

Additional treatment (vitamin D and iron therapy) is administered during the first months of life.

If complications occur, the baby’s blood glucose level is monitored every 2-4 hours until it stabilises. Other complications should be treated as they appear. The maturity and development of the baby should be monitored and “early stimulation” techniques implemented, if necessary.
