The new research group combines clinical and translational research to better understand the biology of gastric, pancreatic, and biliary tumors. It develops patient-derived preclinical models, integrates multi-omic molecular data, and uses liquid biopsy to monitor tumor evolution. Through early-phase clinical trials and biomarker studies, the group promotes the development of precision medicine to improve the survival and quality of life of patients with upper digestive tract tumors.
Teresa Macarulla obtained her degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and is a specialist in Medical Oncology. She is currently the Head of the Medical Oncology Department at the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. Her research focuses on pancreatic and biliary tract cancers, with special emphasis on targeted therapies, immunotherapy, and biomarkers. She has published more than 200 high-impact scientific articles and is an internationally renowned expert in digestive oncology and precision medicine.
Tian Tian holds a degree in Medicine. He completed his PhD studies at the Institut Pasteur de Lille and subsequently carried out a postdoctoral stay at the Centre for Genomic Regulation in Barcelona, which focused on the transcriptional and epigenetic regulation of cancer cell plasticity. His research combines molecular oncology, patient-derived models, and multi-omic approaches to advance precision medicine in pancreatobiliary and gastroesophageal cancers. He has obtained national and European funding, as well as collaborations with various pharmaceutical companies.
