Nursing 5.0 is committed to integrating knowledge, innovation and advanced technology into care that is increasingly human, personalized and person-centred. This model strengthens the strategic role of nursing in transforming the healthcare system, promoting new competencies in five areas: care, research, teaching, management, and innovation, to address future health challenges.
The Hospital Clínic Barcelona chose to dedicate its International Nurses Day celebration to this concept, and for this reason organized the roundtable discussion “Role models inspiring the future of nursing”, where nursing professionals shared their vision. “Nursing 5.0 is what we have always done”, stated Montse Venturas, head of nursing at the Clínic Cardiovascular Institute. It means viewing technology, data and processes as resources to make us better, whilst never losing sight of humanity and placing the person at the centre.
Saray Alen, director of nursing at the Clínic, highlighted the value of care and the transformative role of nursing within the healthcare system. During her speech, Alen emphasized the fact that, in a context marked by digitalization and technological innovation, “nursing continues to provide what no technology can replace: the human touch, listening, clinical judgement, closeness, and the ability to build trust.” The director of nursing also focused on Nursing 5.0, a strategic initiative by the centre to promote “a more innovative, more connected, more visible, and more prominent role for nursing in the transformation of healthcare.”
The director general of the Clínic, Josep Maria Campistol, congratulated the nursing professionals and highlighted the fact that the healthcare system is facing an “increasingly complex” reality from both a healthcare and an organizational perspective. In this context, he stressed that “we must reinvent ourselves”, and pointed out that the Nursing 5.0 project responds precisely to this need for transformation and the evolution of the care model. Campistol also reaffirmed the hospital management’s commitment to the nursing profession and to a more innovative, visible and leading role for nursing within the healthcare system.
