The Hospital Clínic Barcelona opens the new A&E Department at the Plató Site. The space has been completely renovated to offer more efficient, comfortable care adapted to current needs. The refurbishment project represents a substantial improvement in healthcare, especially focused on the elderly population, one of the most vulnerable groups and with the highest demand for care at this site.
The Catalan Minister of Health, Olga Pané, visited the site accompanied by Dr Josep Maria Campistol, director general, Dr Raquel Sánchez-Valle, medical director, and Saray Alen, nursing director at the hospital, as well as the A&E Department’s management team.
The new facilities have a modern structure, with a triage area, a space adapted for the care of low-complexity processes, as well as 18 individual cubicles and an observation area with 14 beds. This means a capacity for 30,000 visits per year.
Miquel Sanchez, director of the A&E Department assures that “the aim is to position the Clínic’s A&E Department within the healthcare system as a reference in the care of fragile patients.”
“Thanks to modern clinical monitoring systems, we can assure the surveillance, care, evolution and safety of patients. The individual cubicles guarantee the comfort and privacy of patients and their companions,” explains Gemma Gallardo, head of nursing management in the A&E Department.
This milestone was made possible thanks to the joint work of all the structure departments, which made it possible to optimize spaces, improve functionality and create an environment that favours well-being and healthcare efficiency.
The opening ceremony not only marks the launch of the new space, but also celebrates the centenary of the Plató Site. Following the visit to the new A&E Department, a commemorative ceremony was held in the Tavern Room, which was also attended by Dr Jordi Pujol, former director general of the Hospital Plató between 1985 and 2021.
