PROMs

PROMs (Patient-Reported Outcome Measures) are standardized instruments that directly capture patients’ perceptions of their health status, quality of life, symptoms, and level of functioning following an intervention or throughout the care process, without interpretation by healthcare professionals.

The aim of PROMs is to assess health outcomes from the patient’s perspective and understand the real impact that a disease or treatment has on their daily lives. This information complements traditional clinical indicators and provides a more comprehensive view of healthcare outcomes, contributing to person-centred, value-based healthcare.

To ensure a standardized and comparable measure of patient-reported outcomes, Hospital Clínic Barcelona promotes the use of the EQ-5D-5L as the generic reference questionnaire across all applicable areas of care and clinical pathways. This tool enables a consistent assessment of key dimensions of health, facilitating the comparison of outcomes and the identification of opportunities to improve the care provided to patients.

The systematic implementation of PROMs helps strengthen shared decision-making, monitor health outcomes that are relevant to patients, and drive continuous improvement in the quality of care from the patient’s perspective.
