Patient satisfaction and patient experience are closely related but not equivalent concepts, and they provide complementary information. While satisfaction surveys capture patients’ overall assessment of the care received, Patient-Reported Experience Measures (PREMs) focus on describing what happened during the care process and how it was experienced by the patient.
For this reason, Clínic Barcelona promotes the assessment of Patient-Reported Experience Measures as a tool to better understand the factors that influence patients’ care experiences. This work has enabled the development of new experience indicators and has advanced the co-creation and validation of specific instruments for different areas of care, with the active participation of healthcare professionals, patients, and family members.
Areas of PREM development and implementation in 2025
Throughout 2025, Clínic Barcelona continued to promote the implementation of Patient-Reported Experience Measures (PREMs) across different areas of care, with the aim of generating indicators to assess patient experience and support quality improvement initiatives.
The main lines of work included:
- Outpatient Clinics, through the consolidation of the systematic assessment of patient experience using a specific questionnaire developed and validated by the hospital.
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), through the translation into Catalan and Spanish and the validation of the international PREM-C9 questionnaire.
- Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), through participation in the validation process of a specific instrument designed to measure patient experience.
