Prognosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Reading time: 1 min

IBS has a variable course. Symptoms tend to fluctuate, with flare-ups when symptoms become worse followed by periods of improvement, and sometimes periods when symptoms are minimal or absent.

IBS is not associated with an increased risk of death or cancer. However, recurrent symptoms can have a significant impact on day-to-day life and may place a considerable burden on people living with the condition.
