What is Malaria?
Reading time: 1 min
Malaria is a potentially fatal disease caused by a parasite of the genus Plasmodium. It is transmitted to humans through the bite of female mosquitoes of the genus Anopheles.
It is one of the most commonly imported tropical diseases, and one of the primary health concerns for travellers. Every year, between 400 and 600 cases of malaria imported from those who have travelled to risk zones are diagnosed in Spain every year.
