Diagnóstico de la Parálisis Supranuclear Progresiva (PSP)

Durante muchos años, el diagnóstico de la parálisis supranuclear progresiva (PSP) se realizaba a partir de los síntomas y de la exploración médica, según la presentación “clásica” de la enfermedad, la PSP-Richardson. No existían pruebas específicas y la enfermedad solo podía confirmarse tras el fallecimiento mediante el estudio del cerebro, cuando se encontraba la acumulación anormal de la proteína tau.

Desde 2017, los criterios diagnósticos han evolucionado y, además de la forma “clásica”, se reconocen otras formas de PSP:

  • La categoría de PSP “sugestiva” permite sospechar la enfermedad en fases más iniciales y facilita el acceso más precoz a ensayos clínicos y a nuevos tratamientos.
