Pre-eclampsia Research at the Clínic
Research is mostly carried out by l’Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS), specifically in the Foetal and Perinatal Medicine group.
Research activity focuses on predicting pre-eclampsia. The Service has created a pre-eclampsia risk calculator used by thousands of professionals during the first 3 months of pregnancy. This predictive algorithm has been patented.
Currently underway is a publicly funded clinical trial on the role of angiogenic factors in selecting patients with late pre-eclampsia who benefit from elective delivery. There are also 3 other ongoing studies on the prediction and characterisation of placental injury in pre-eclampsia.
