Teaching and training - Unit of Pulmonary hypertension
Teaching is a fundamental pillar of the Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) Unit at the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, committed to the training of highly qualified professionals in the diagnosis, treatment and comprehensive management of PH. The unit is actively involved in undergraduate education, especially in the field of medicine and nursing, as well as in postgraduate and continuing education programmes for residents and external professionals, which strengthens its position as a reference centre in this field.
In the field of university education, the unit collaborates in the training of students at the University of Barcelona (UB), in the Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine. The unit's lecturers, including Dr Joan Albert Barberà and Dr Isabel Blanco, teach key topics such as pulmonary embolism and pulmonary hypertension in the Diseases of the Respiratory System course. In addition, the unit offers clinical practicals to medical students, familiarizing them with the clinical and therapeutic aspects of pulmonary hypertension, preparing future professionals with direct experience in this complex pathology.
The unit also distinguishes itself in the training of Medical Residents (MIR), especially in the specialty of Pulmonology. Residents who rotate through the unit acquire advanced skills, such as the performance of pulmonary haemodynamic studies, and become some of the best-trained specialists in the field of pulmonary hypertension in Spain. In addition, the unit regularly receives MIRs from other specialties and centres interested in doing specific rotations in pulmonary hypertension, as well as international professionals on training stays.
The unit also promotes continuous training for other healthcare professionals through specialized courses, such as the ‘Curs Nacional d'Infermeria en Atenció al Pacient amb HP’ (‘National Nursing Course in the Care of Patients with HP’), a benchmark in Spain for training in the management of this disease. The unit also actively participates in master's degrees and specialization courses for pulmonologists, cardiologists, internists and nurses. These training activities, in addition to updating professionals on the latest developments and treatments, reinforce the unit's commitment to teaching excellence and advancing knowledge of pulmonary hypertension.
