Treatment of Chagas at Hospital Clínic
T. cruzi infection leading to Chagas disease is currently one of the main reasons for consultation at the International Health Department at Hospital Clínic. Since 2005, more than 3,000 people at risk of having the disease have been screened, of which 45% were given a confirmed diagnosis.
There are 250-300 new visits every year as well as around 1,000 check-ups, which means that the cohort of patients being monitored at our centre is one of the most statistically significant in non-endemic countries.
Together with the Barcelona Institute for Global Health and the CEADES Foundation in Bolivia, Hospital Clínic has established a certified care model for T. cruzi infection, which is implemented at different healthcare centres in Bolivia and allows for continued monitoring of the disease based on the same criteria on both sides of the ocean.
