Treatment of Chikungunya

There is no specific treatment for chikunguña virus infection, which means that the most effective measure against the disease is preventing infection, in other words, protection from mosquito bites.
The following is recommended:
Staying well hydrated.
Controlling the fever with paracetamol.
Once chikungunya infection has been confirmed and a possible case of dengue has been discounted, an anti-inflammatory treatment procedure to treat the joint pain can be initiated, if necessary. In some cases, if symptoms persist, assessment by a rheumatology specialist may be recommended.
