Living with Chikungunya
In case of fever (of over 38ºC) following travel to a tropical zone, you are recommended to urgently seek a health centre, where you can be diagnosed and given suitable treatment.
The following is recommended:
Stay well hydrated.
Take paracetamol to lower the fever.
Do not take aspirin and, as far as is possible, avoid taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen) until you have a confirmed diagnosis.
Once chikunguña has been diagnosed, or if recommended by a doctor, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can be taken to control joint pain. If there is no improvement, you are advised to consult the healthcare team to assess whether further tests or treatments are necessary.
