Peritoneal carcinomatosis at Hospital Clínic
Given its complexity, PC treatment is performed in reference centres. The Hospital Clínic is a reference centre for the treatment of peritoneal carcinomatosis and takes on cases referred from other centres; including the entire diagnostic-therapeutic process and follow-up.
On an outpatient basis, a personal consultation can be arranged, with a pre-anaesthetic evaluation and a rapid diagnosis of the extent of the disease. All cases are reviewed by the Multidisciplinary Peritoneal Carcinomatosis Committee, made up of professionals from different specialities, and an individualised therapeutic plan for each patient prepared.
The Clínic team includes professionals from different services specifically involved in the multidisciplinary management of this pathology: Radiology, Oncology, Surgery, Pathological Anatomy, Anaesthesiology and Nursing.
A highly specialised surgical team in the comprehensive treatment of these patients provides optimal results in terms of morbidity and mortality associated with surgery and HIPEC procedures. Specific training and teaching are necessary for quality care. Clinical practice of peritoneal carcinomatosis is recorded on a database, for constant monitoring and to promote the different multidisciplinary and multicentre lines of research, currently active in our centre.
