Research - Clínic Respiratory Institute

The research carried out by the Clínic Respiratory Institute is conducted through the August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS) in the following area:

The activity developes in following researchers groups:

  • Biopathology and respiratory, cardiovascular, and renal bioengineering
  • The activity is carried out through the following research groups:
  • Infectious respiratory diseases, critical illness, and lung cancer.
  • Pathophysiological mechanisms of respiratory diseases.
  • Respiratory immunoallergy.
  • Inflammation and repair of respiratory diseases.
  • Pulmonary vascular diseases.

The Clínic Respiratory Institute (ICR) aims to achieve excellence and European leadership in translating research findings into clinical practice through new ways of leveraging knowledge generated in the field of respiratory medicine.

The ICR views innovation as a tool for adapting to change, both in the healthcare and social environment and in the economic sphere, with two well-defined aspects aimed at:

  • Improving healthcare processes in organizational and technological aspects.
  • Generating new economic resources through relationships with existing companies or the creation of new spin-off companies.

In this context, it is worth highlighting the role of the Clínic Respiratory Institute in setting up a Knowledge Innovation Community on Active and Healthy Ageing within the strategy of the European Institute of Technology (Horizon 2020 programme of the European Commission).

Several ICR professionals also carry out their research through the Biomedical Research Centres Network for Respiratory Diseases (CIBERES) and Rare Diseases (CIBERER).
