Teaching and training - Clínic Respiratory Institute
The Clínic Respiratory Institute carries out teaching activities at the following levels:
Undergraduate
This includes theoretical and practical training for medical and nursing students.
The Clínic Respiratory Institute is responsible for teaching the subject "Respiratory System Diseases," which includes both Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery, in the fourth year of the University of Barcelona's Medical Degree programme. Several ICR professionals are university professors and teach all the theoretical classes, seminars, and practical classes. Clinical professors and resident doctors also participate in undergraduate practical teaching as teaching assistants.
Specialized MIR training
The ICR offers MIR training in the following specialties:
- Pulmonology
- Allergology
- Thoracic Surgery.
This training is structured around training pathways and teaching plans that incorporate the progressive assumption of healthcare responsibilities with appropriate mentoring. The training pathways are in line with the national training plans for the specialties. High-level training is provided to enable future specialists to practise with professional excellence.
The aim is to train highly qualified specialist doctors, not only with the technical knowledge specific to the specialty, but also with the necessary human and professional qualities.
Continuing education
The Clínic Respiratory Institute organizes weekly clinical care and continuing education sessions (Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3.00 pm to 4.00 pm, respectively), in accordance with this programme.
It also periodically organizes courses in the following specialties through Aula Clínic:
- Updates in respiratory medicine.
- Intensive respiratory care.
- Lung function.
- Complex allergies.
Master's degrees
The Clínic Respiratory Institute participates in the following official master's degrees at the University of Barcelona:
- Master's Degree in Clinical Research – Respiratory Diseases.
- Master's Degree in Advanced Medical Skills in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Lung Cancer.
- Master's Degree in Critical Illness and Medical Emergencies.
Training placements
The Clínic Respiratory Institute welcomes doctors (Spanish and foreign) specializing in Pulmonology, Allergology, or Thoracic Surgery to improve their specialized training. These training placements last a minimum of six months and must be processed institutionally (Hospital Teaching Committee) and accredited by official bodies.
Observers
The Clínic Respiratory Institute can host doctors for observation stays of up to one month. These periods must be processed and formalized officially.
