Geriatrics is the specialty that deals with the health of elderly people.

It studies the clinical, preventive, therapeutic and social aspects of health and illness in acute, chronic, rehabilitation, preventive and end-of-life settings.

The Geriatrics Department offers comprehensive, specialized and personalized care based on a person-centred care model. In addition to clinical care, it coordinates with other departments and healthcare facilities to ensure continuous care tailored to patients' needs.

Older adults require a comprehensive assessment and a multidisciplinary approach to prevent deterioration, improve functionality and facilitate a return to their usual environment in the best possible conditions. The main objective of the Department is to promote autonomy and quality of life, ensuring that each person receives the appropriate care in the right place and at the right time.

The Geriatrics Department leads the care of clinical frailty within the hospital and works across different specialties. This collaboration optimizes decision-making in complex patients and provides tailored responses to the new challenges posed by geriatric care in the health system. The aim is to personalize clinical decisions, taking into account factors such as the frailty and comorbidities of geriatric patients.
