Neonatology Service
The Neonatology Deparment is part of the Institute Clínic of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Neonatology (ICGON) and participates in a strategic collaborative project with the Neonatology Deparment of the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona, under the umbrella of BCNatal.
The Hospital Clínic handles more than 3,000 births per year and is a centre of excellence in the perinatal field. The Neonatology Department is dedicated to the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of newborns, from full-term low-risk infants (nursery) to extremely premature infants (neonatal ICU).
The Neonatology Department strives to be recognized by society and the medical, academic and scientific community as a centre of excellence in neonatology that offers care based on the best available evidence and focused on the needs of newborns and their families.
The Neonatology Department at the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona is located at the Maternitat Site and occupies the east wing of the second floor. It has 27 hospital beds: seven for intensive care, six for semi-intensive care and 14 for intermediate care.
In terms of technological complexity, the level of neonatal care corresponds to IIIB (advanced intensive care).
The Neonatology Department at the Hospital Clínic has achieved ISO accreditation from AENOR in two reference standards: Neonatology Department (UNE-EN ISO 9001:2015 standard) and Risk Management and Patient Safety (UNE 179003:2013 standard).
