Treating altitude sickness
Reading time: 1 min
People who have symptoms of altitude sickness should try to rest and not continue ascending until they have properly acclimatised, or even descend.
If the symptoms do not improve with rest or if any symptoms appear, you should start to descend as soon as possible and go to the nearest healthcare centre.
Symptoms may improve quickly with descent.
Available treatments for altitude sickness include:
Supply of oxygen.
Use of drugs such as dexamethasone or acetazolamide.
Hyperbaric chamber treatment.
