Prognosis of self-harm cases

Approximately 1 in 3 people who self-harm for the first time will do it again during the next year.
Some self-harming may have physical after-effects such as scarring or infections.
People who self-harm may have other mental disorders, such as eating disorders or substance abuse.
Non-suicidal self-injury increases the risk of a future suicide attempt threefold.
