Prognosis of Autoimmune Hepatitis

Reading time: 1 min

Most patients with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) have a good long-term prognosis. Treatment is usually effective in controlling liver inflammation and preventing progression to cirrhosis.

Even when the disease has already caused cirrhosis, treatment can still be beneficial, as it may stabilise the condition and even improve some complications.

However, when the disease is misdiagnosed or left untreated, liver inflammation can worsen and eventually lead to cirrhosis.
