All experts and scientific committees dedicated to this condition currently recognise that it is incorrect to talk about curing CFS. Chronic fatigue syndrome is an illness with a chronic course and highly fluctuating symptoms. It is not a degenerative disease, but it is persistent and has a significant effect on the patient’s quality of life.
Fluctuations of disease
The actual definition for CFS implies that the symptomatology (fatigue, pain, neurocognitive compromise) will present symptom fluctuations, a fact that is often very unsettling for the patient.
Outbreaks of CFS symptoms may occur spontaneously or when patients are re-exposed to the trigger factors (infections, toxic agents, environmental factors).
Many other illnesses may arise during the course of and in coexistence with chronic fatigue syndrome (comorbidity). The more comorbidities there are, then the harder it is to treat the patient.
All of these conditions converge about a single axis which swings between three main symptoms: fatigue, pain and sensitivity events
What to do in the event of an outbreak of chronic fatigue?
