Reading time: 2 min

This Section works with the highest quality standards and has dedicated schedules and specialized professionals in the management of patients at high risk for colorectal cancer and complex polyps, making it a national and international reference center.

Meanwhile, the Department of General and Digestive Surgery, a world pioneer in the implementation of laparoscopic surgery for oncological digestive treatment, has also incorporated natural orifice surgery (NOTES) and robotic surgery. This Department plays a very active role in teaching minimally invasive colorectal cancer surgery, particularly a specific technique for rectal cancer treatment that combines a transanal approach with laparoscopic or robotic abdominal access (Transanal Total Mesorectal Excision or taTME).

The Hospital Clínic is also a reference center for the treatment of peritoneal carcinomatosis through cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC).

The Radiology Department has the most advanced technology and a team of specialized physicians who are national leaders in percutaneous and angiographic treatments of metastases.

The Oncology Department has a team dedicated exclusively to colorectal cancer (CRC) and carries out around 2,500 annual visits for patients who have or have had CRC. In addition to being a reference in this disease, the hospital is a pioneer in liquid biopsy techniques and complex immunotherapy based on autologous vaccine therapies.
