Research lines into Retinal Detachment

Reading time: 1 min

There are currently two main lines of retinal detachment research:

  • Improving the instruments used to perform the surgery (vitrectomy).
  • Increasing knowledge of one of the most serious complications of retinal detachment, proliferative vitreoretinopathy. This complication consists of the proliferation of misplaced cell layers within the vitreous humour. Currently, there is no reliable treatment available for it, and it also hinders surgical success, significantly worsening the patient's final visual prognosis.
