Diagnosis of Retinal Detachment

Diagnosis is by:

Slit lamp

Basic ophthalmologic examination. The eye is dilated to examine the fundus using a slit lamp and an indirect ophthalmoscope.

Retinography

Wide field retinal imaging (fundus photographs) to obtain larger images of the retina and identify abnormalities in the blood vessels around the retina.

Optical coherence tomography

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) to check the condition of the central part of the retina (macula) using light beams. This provides images of sections of the different layers of the retina to check the condition of the macula.
