A&E Department
The A&E Department reports to the Hospital Clínic Medical Management and is spread across two centres, with the capacity to handle a wide range of emergencies, from the most critical to the least complex:
- Villarroel Centre: It has 86 treatment cubicles with capacity for 112 patients at any one time.
- Plató Centre: The new facilities feature a modern layout, with a triage area adapted for low-complexity care processes, as well as 8 individual treatment cubicles and an observation area with 14 beds. This provides a capacity of 30,000 visits per year, almost double the number of emergencies attended per year to date.
Both centres are equipped with modern facilities and specific areas designed to meet the needs of each patient, including resuscitation, stabilization and treatment zones.
The A&E Department is a leader in urgent and emergency care, with a philosophy of continuous improvement that allows us to adapt to changes, such as the care of geriatric patients. We are a multidisciplinary team of highly qualified professionals committed to the health, safety and well-being of our patients. Every day, we work to ensure rapid and efficient care, but always putting people and their needs—both medical and human—first.
Our values—trust, gratitude and generosity—are the driving force behind our daily work. The patient is at the heart of everything we do, and our professionals are the key asset that enables us to move forward with commitment and determination.
How we work: efficiency and continuous improvement
The A&E Department operates based on LEAN methodology, a model that prioritizes the optimization of care processes to ensure efficient management tailored to real needs. Thanks to this approach:
Patients receive structured and prioritized care, ensuring that the most serious cases are treated as quickly as possible, even at times of high demand.
The staff work in a more organized and efficient environment, which contributes to safer and better coordinated care for all patients.
The commitment to continuous improvement enables us to adapt to daily challenges and respond to the changing needs of patients and healthcare teams.
Despite the emotional distress caused by the need for urgent care, we strive to ensure that patients, family members and carers have the best possible experience, both technically and personally.
