The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychology Service is part of the Clínic Institute of Neuroscience (ICN). The Service has a long history and significant experience in developing the main resources and programs for psychiatric care in children and adolescents.

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychology Service provides assistance to children and adolescents with psychiatric illness providing full and partial hospitalization, emergency services and outpatient consultation, all in accordance with the programs agreed on with the Catalan Health Service and the clinical guidelines.

The Service has also pioneered comprehensive care for addictive behaviors at these ages, primarily in patients with other psychiatric illnesses. In recent years, it has taken on an important role in Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

In the field of education, the Service participates in the teaching of Undergraduate Medicine, Psychiatry, both in theoretical classes and seminars and onsite training, and Postgraduate degrees. It is also involved with training in Psychiatry and Child Psychology in MIRs and PIRs, which rotate according to the Service, and the work being done by students on masters degrees in Child Psychopathology at the University of Barcelona.

The Service has active several lines of ongoing research with numerous public and private research grants, both national and international, and with an increasing scientific production.

Know the team

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychology Department is made up of a large, multidisciplinary team specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry, psychology, nursing, social work, social education, occupational therapy, clinical and healthcare assistance, and administration. It also has four teachers from the Regional Ministry of Education.

Each professional works in their own area of specialization with respect, responsibility and commitment, and with a personal desire for continuous learning in the care of children and adolescents affected by mental disorders. In addition, they support their patients’ families in adapting to the process of the illness and help them make the changes required to treat and improve their child’s disorder.
