The CORE Laboratory staff participate in teaching programmes in different fields, with the aim of training professionals interested in the different areas in which the CORE laboratory carries out its activity.

Undergraduate degrees

The CORE Laboratory collaborates in the teaching activities of the undergraduate degrees in Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmacy and Nursing at the University of Barcelona’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University, and in the teaching of Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory advanced vocational training courses in Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory Technology. There are internship agreements with various training centres.

Master’s degree courses

The Deparment has one associate professor and two clinical professors who belong to the Departments of Biomedicine and Medicine at the University of Barcelona. The Department's doctors also participate as teaching staff in various master’s degrees and courses.

Resident training

The CORE Laboratory participates in the training of residents in the following specialty:

The hospital is accredited to offer one Biochemistry residency position each year, which is open to graduates in Pharmacy and various undergraduate Bioscience degrees (FIR [Resident Pharmacists], and BIR [Resident Biologists]). During the first year, the residents are trained and participate in the CORE activities. Moreover, thanks to the laboratory’s innovative character, it is also usual to receive residents from national and international centres who request training stays to expand their knowledge.

Continuing education

The CORE Laboratory has its own continuing education programme to update the knowledge of all the staff. Thus, CORE members participate in courses organized by the laboratory itself, as well as in activities and conferences organized by scientific societies to which the specialty belongs, or by laboratory technician associations.

Every week, all doctors and residents on call in the emergency laboratory participate in a session to update their knowledge and processes and discuss the most relevant cases that occurred during the previous week.

Scheduled visits are also organized for staff from other hospitals, the in vitro diagnostics industry, and participants in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in which the laboratory is involved.
