Teaching and Training - Unit of Addictive Behaviors

The Addictive Behaviour Unit also has a teaching focus and is committed to training undergraduate students, specialists (MIR, PIR, EIR) and other health professionals at both national and international levels in the field of addiction from a biopsychosocial perspective.

Degrees

The Addictive Behaviour Unit trains undergraduate students in medicine, psychology, social work and social education in the field of addiction from a broad biopsychosocial perspective, providing theoretical training and supervising the practical work of undergraduate students at the University of Barcelona. It also offers training in Motivational Interviewing, which improves communication skills and helps people in the health field achieve changes that improve their well-being.

Continuing education

The Addictive Behaviour Unit carries out specific training activities in different disciplines within the field of addiction:

  • Smoking, specifically in mental health, within the Smoke-Free Hospital Network.
  • Chemsex, (the use of psychostimulants and other addictive substances in a binge pattern related to sexual practices) training professionals in the Catalan Addiction and Primary Care Network.
  • Motivational interviewing, training professionals from the Catalan Addiction Network and medical, psychology and nursing residents.

In addition, within the unit itself, it organizes weekly continuing education sessions and participates in the Psychiatry and Psychology Service continuing education programme.

  • Training courses on alcohol and other drug addictions for doctors and psychologists who wish to acquire practical training in the management of addictive disorders by spending 3 to 6 months at the unit.
