Teaching - Unit of Bipolar

The teaching and training activity of the Bipolar and Depressive Disorders Unit of the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona aims to offer an optimal transmission of knowledge of Affective Disorders and other related disorders, both at undergraduate, postgraduate, specialized training (MIR, PIR, EIR) and continuing university and non-university training levels, always following rigorous criteria of maximum quality in the training. The Unit also collaborates in teaching, both theoretical and practical, on the Bachelor's Degree in Medicine and the Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Sciences.

It participates in and/or coordinates part of the training of Medical Degree students:

  • Elective course in Psychiatric Therapeutics (4th year)
  • General Semiotics and Clinical Propaedeutics. Medical Ethics (3rd year)
  • Elective course in Translational Medicine (3rd year)
  • Medical Psychology (2nd year)
  • Summer Practicum (4th year)
  • Clinical Hospital Rotations (6th year)

The Unit is part of the following national and international master’s programs:

  • Master’s in General Health Psychology – Intervention in Neuropsychology
  • Master’s in Clinical Research within the Systems Medicine module

Psychiatry Specialty and Other Medical Specialties

Training for Psychiatry MIR residents, Psychology PIR residents, Nursing EIR residents, and other MIR specialties (Child Psychiatry, Neurology, Family and Community Medicine, Anesthesiology, Pharmacology, etc.).
Training stays in the Bipolar and Depressive Disorders Unit, mainly for residents from other national centers. Research stays in the Bipolar and Depressive Disorders Unit, mainly for residents from other international centers. We have also begun offering advanced courses in Bipolar Disorder (in close collaboration with Aula Clínic), a course aimed at medical specialists in Psychiatry that provides specific training in the evaluation, diagnosis, and therapeutic management of Bipolar Disorder.

In recent years, the Unit has organized the Workshop on Clinical Research Methods (ECNP). In addition, over the last few years, 23 doctoral theses have been supervised and 40 books on bipolar and depressive disorders have been published. The Unit has also been the author of Clinical Guidelines for the treatment of Bipolar Disorder at the international level (World Federation of Societies of Biological Psychiatry Guidelines, International Society for Bipolar Disorders Guidelines, and Canadian Network for Mood and Anxiety Treatments), at the national level (Clinical Guideline for the Treatment of Bipolar Disorder of the Spanish National Health System), and at the regional level (Guideline on the Management of Bipolar Disorder in Catalonia and Guideline on Major Depression in Catalonia).
