Treatment of Aortic Aneurysms at Hospital Clínic

Reading time: 1 min

Aortic aneurysm treatment at Hospital Clínic is outstanding for its multidisciplinary approach. Each case is evaluated in a joint session with professionals from different specialties: cardiovascular surgery, anaesthesia, angioradiology and angiology, and vascular surgery.

The goal is to assess the patient as a whole, considering both the technical aspects of a potential surgical procedure and the patient’s overall risk and prognosis, in order to offer the most appropriate and individualised treatment option (conventional surgery, endovascular, combined approach, or conservative management), without any limitation.

Hospital Clínic has extensive experience in this disease and was the first centre in the country to treat an aortic aneurysm endovascularly in 1997. Today, it treats over 120 new aneurysms surgically each year, ranging from relatively standard cases to highly and extremely complex repairs (conventional or endovascular surgery of thoracoabdominal aneurysms, open and endovascular repair of aortic arch and ascending aorta aneurysms, and parallel stenting techniques).

It also offers comprehensive treatment for urgent cases, ruptured or complicated aneurysms, and performs both conventional surgical treatment and minimally invasive endovascular techniques.
